The paper contains brief information about the history of studying chrysanthemum in the humid subtropics of Russia (the city of Sochi). The study of chrysanthemum culture was conducted in the Russian Research Institute of Floriculture and Subtropical Crops for more than 45 years; during this period more than 150 cultivars of large-flowered chrysanthemum and more than 40 cultivars of small-flowered chrysanthemum participated in the study. Currently, the Institute is carrying out a large selection work aimed at obtaining domestic cultivars. At present, chrysanthemum collection of the Institute includes 38 cultivars, among which 20 are world-bred, most of which belong to the group of small-flowered chrysanthemum, and 18 cultivars are bred in the Institute. 18 cultivars from the Institute's general collection are found in vitro.
