Studying and selecting promising assortment are the main tasks of the introduction work. The genus Iris is quite diverse in species composition. Hybrid (bearded) irises are the most popular, so there are some studying methods developed for them. In recent years, interest has also increased in beardless irises, including Iris sibirica, but there is no methodology for studying this group. In this regard, on the basis of methods of studying hybrid iris cultivars Russian Research Institute of Floriculture and Subtropical Crops is developing certain methods for assessing Siberian iris cultivars. Criteria for assessing ornamental qualities, the most important in gardening, are emphasized; assessment cards are compiled. Economic and biological signs are defied. Distinctive features noted in the structure of the Siberian iris flwer, are necessary for describing cultivar samples and for assessing their diversity
