PRODUCTIVITY AND BIOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF GOOSEBERRY CULTIVARS UNDER THE RAINFED CONDITIONS

The paper presents the studies about yield and quality of the following gooseberry cultivars: ‘Severnyy kapitan’, ‘Finskiy’, ‘Chelyabinskiy maloshypyy’, ‘Komandor’, ‘Salyut’, ‘Konsul’. The studied cultivars were influenced by stressful climatic conditions such as insufficient precipitation, high temperatures and low air humidity. The results showed that the average weight of gooseberry berries varied among cultivars from 1.5 g (‘Severnyy kapitan’) to 3.2 g (‘Konsul’), the average yield among cultivars was within 2.5 t/ha (‘Finskiy’) – 6.9 t/ha (‘Severnyy kapitan’). For a complex of biochemical parameters, ‘Chelyabinskiy maloshypyy’ and ‘Komandor’ cultivars stood out. Having studied commodity qualities and the biochemical composition in gooseberry berries, we identified ‘Consul’ cultivar as a promising one in the conditions of the Southern Urals.
