Equally with traditional methods of plant conservation ex situ application of isolated tissue and organ cultures is becoming more and more actual. Volgograd Regional Botanical Garden has been working to create in vitro collection since 2005. Currently, in vitro collection rare species contains 50 species belonging to 19 families. Fabaceae, Brassicaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Liliaceae, Iridaceae families are the most representative in in vitro collection of rare plant species of Volgograd Regional Botanical Garden. In vitro storage of valuable plant forms is a highly efficient and useful way to maintain plant collections and conserve plant biodiversity.
