BIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF FLOWERING SHRUB CULTIVARS INTRODUCED IN THE HUMID SUBTROPICS OF RUSSIA

The phenophases of flowering shrubs were studied, as a result of which the cultivars were divided into groups according to early, medium and late flowering terms. 15 cultivars were classified as early flowering: Forsythia Vahl – ‘Densiflora’, ̒Spectabilis’, ‘Lynwood’ (from mid-March); Chaenomeles Lindl. – ‘Afterglow’, ‘Ernst Finken’ (from late January); Hydrangea L. – ‘Harlequin’, ‘Soso’, ‘Intermedia’, ‘Twilight’, ‘Madame Emile Mouillere’ (from early June); Weigela Thunb. – ‘Arlequin’, ‘Gustave Malet’, ‘Mon Blanc’ (from mid-April); Hibiscus syriacus L.– ‘Rubis’, ‘Blue Bird’ (from mid-June). 13 cultivars were attributed to the medium flowering: Chaenomeles – ‘Coral Beauty’, ‘Brilliant’, ‘Red Trail’ (from mid-February); Hydrangea – ‘Alpengluchen’, ‘Merville Sanguine’, ‘Selma’, ‘Green Shadows’ (from mid-June); Weigela – ‘Eva Ratke’, ‘Lacepede’, ‘Ballet’ (from late April); Hibiscus syriacus – ‘Dorothy Crane’, ‘Pink Giant’, ‘Woodbridge’ (from late June). 8 cultivars were classified as late flowering: Forsythia – ‘Beatrix Farrand’, ‘Parkdekor’, ‘Vitellina’, ‘Golden Times’ ( from late March); Chaenomeles – ‘Crimson and Gold’ (from late February); Weigela – ‘Kosteriana Variegata’ (from early May); Hibiscus syriacus – ‘Dac de Brabant’, ‘Matilda’ (from mid-July).
