BRIEF HISTORICAL, SYSTEMATIC AND BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HIBISCUS L. REPRESENTATIVES

The paper briefly describes the history and systematics of the genus Hibiscus L. It is shown that in the south of Russia (in the humid subtropics of the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory), 8 species are found in culture, 5 of them are of particular interest as ornamental plants. These include: Hibiscus × hybridus Hort., Hibiscus mutabilis L., Hibiscus lasiocarpus Cavar., Hibiscus coccineus L. and Hibiscus syriacus L. The biological features of H. syriacus L., the most widespread species in the south of Russia, are characterized.
